When shopping for new breaching tools, look for the quality of construction and the types of material the tools are made from.
The metals that the manufacturer uses can tell you a lot about the tool and how it will withstand the harsh breaching
environment. Below is a materials applications guide to help you in making an informed and educated decision about your new
breaching tool.

The following list are some of the metals used for Double-Tap Breaching Tools.

Ti - 6Al - 4V Alpha-beta alloy - This is a widely used titanium alloy. It has very high strength but relatively low ductility. The
main application of this alloy is in aircraft and spacecraft however offshore use is growing. The alloy is weldable and can be
precipitation hardened.

6061T6 - A Heat treatable aluminum alloy used in the manufacture of heavy-duty structures requiring good corrosion resistance,
truck and marine components, railroad cars, tank fittings, and high-pressure applications. Machinability in the harder T 4 and T6
tempers is good. Solution heat treat at 990 F for adequate time to allow for thorough heating and then water quench.
Precipitation hardening is done at 320 F for 18 hours and air cool, followed by 350 F for 8 hours and air-cooling.

303 Stainless Steel - Is one of the most popular of all the free machining stainless steels. It offers good strength, corrosion
resistance and great machinability. It will resist scaling at temperatures up to 1600 F(871 C). Used in an incredibly wide variety
of parts both in screw and general machining industries. Applications include hardware, fasteners, valve parts, and nozzles.

1045 Carbon Steel - is a medium carbon steel and used when greater strength and hardness is desired. Extreme size
accuracy, straightness and concentricity combine to minimize wear in high speed applications. Turned, ground and polished
bars can be machined unsymmetrically with minimum distortion. Used in gears, shafts, axles, bolts, studs, and machine parts.
1045 can be case hardened to Rc 50-65.

4140 Cromoloy - This is one of the chromium, molybdenum, manganese low alloy steels noted for toughness, good torsional
strength and good fatigue strength. Typical applications for 4140 low alloy steel include structural use such as aircraft engine
mounts and welded tubing applications. This alloy is hardened by heating to 1550 F and quenching in oil.

0-1 Decarb - This alloy is one of the Cold Work, oil hardening type tool steels. It contains manganese, tungsten and chromium.
Hardening by oil quench minimizes distortion and cracking. Applications include short run tooling for blanking dies, cold forming
dies and cutting tools operating at ambient temperature. Slowly preheat to 1200 F and then gradually raise temperature to 1450
- 1500 F and keep at temperature for 10 to 30 minutes. Quench in oil.

Hardcoat anodizing - is a process that forms a very hard, dense, and relatively thick (.002") coating of aluminum oxide. The
coating material formed in this process occurs in nature as corundum, and is the second-hardest naturally occurring substance,
second only to diamond. Hardcoat is often described as being "file hard", since it is difficult to scratch, even with a mill file.
Hardcoat is also exceptionally corrosion resistant, being very effective against salt water environments.

All tools have deep hard-anodized (.002") handles, collets and end-caps. All heads are coated with very high quality epoxy paint
that is used on many firearms. These coatings enhance the appearance, increase quality, add strength, and decrease wear.
Anodized aluminum is very hard and can resist impact forces. Hardcoat anodized aluminum is gray in color.

"THIS AINT YOUR GRANDDADDY'S BREACHING TOOLS"
Double-Tap Breaching Tool were designed by an active duty Special Forces (18C) master breacher
who was fed up with the lack of reliable breaching tools on the market. He took many years of "real
world" experience and a profound knowledge of mechanical design and built the next generation of
breaching tools. Tools that will not fail when you need them, guaranteed! No short cuts were taken in
the developmental process. The highest quality of US made materials and equipment are used in the
construction. This ensures that the end product is as strong as possible. Each tool is machined from
billets of the appropriate metal, by doing this, it adds to the strength and quality. Ask yourself this
"Would I rather buy the best tool once or chinese made tools over and over again?
